The oldest Iranian handmade carpet was discovered in 1949 in the second stage of the exploration of the Russian archaeologist, Rudenko, in the Pazyrich region, called the Pazyrich carpet.
In a book published on the occasion of these discoveries in Russia in 1953, Rudenko articulated a detailed description of the carpet of artifacts and explicitly stated the work of Iran and the oldest Iranian carpet in the world. He wrote: "Without the fact that we can definitely say which carpet is one of the land of Mater-Parth (Old Khorasan) or Pars, the history of this carpet and the fabrics discovered in Pazirik was the fifth or early fourteenth century BC Is recognized. "
During the reign of the Mongols (thirteenth and fourteenth centuries), carpet weaving reached a very high level of beauty and technique. The flourishing of this industry may have coincided with the rule of Ghazan Khan (1307-1295 AD).
But the peak of the classic Iranian carpet renovated in Iran is the time of the Safavi kings (1499-1722), especially during the reign of Shah Tahmasb I (1524-1587) and King Abbas the Great (AD 1587-1629). They are From this era, there are about 3,000 carpet boards stored in the world's largest collections or in personal collections.
During this period, besides the kings' palaces, weaving carpet workshops are being built. Various centers that previously existed in Tabriz, Isfahan, Kashan, Mashhad, Kerman, Yoghaz, Yazd, Astarabad, Herat and Northern states such as Shirvan, Garabagh and Gilan, were more developed and thriving. they got.
At the same time, high-level painters and photographers introduced a summed up plan of combines of bergamot in the middle of the carpet and lattices. That is, the same design that used to be used on precious books in the 15th century.
